The introduction of Unimarket’s system has transformed business for New Zealand’s largest operator of bus services, significantly improving the efficiency, ease and effectiveness of how it spends its annual $35-million operational budget.

“Unimarket is simple and logical,” says Carl Stratton, NZ Bus’s Chief Financial Officer. “The training is easy because anyone who transacts on the internet is familiar with the process.”

Implementation took just months and the benefits were soon apparent. “We’ve gone from 1300 suppliers down to 700 and expect to refine that further. Consolidating our purchasing allows leverage of scale, while consistent processes across the business means all our buyers know the service they will get,” says Stratton.“The business is benefiting from a boost in efficiency which carries over from procurement to the company in a broader sense.”

To Stratton, the move to Unimarket is about more than dollars and cents. “It’s about getting the business working better. Would we do it again? Absolutely.”
